Close finishes and one-sided results from the first round around the area
Cornersville needed the narrowest winning margin on the area board, edging McEwen 21–20. Riverside and Hickman County needed overtime before Riverside emerged with a 43–41 win. Those results, alongside Spring Hill’s late two-point escape, made a sharp contrast with the round’s one-sided finishes.
Marshall County beat White House 41–6, and Walker Valley defeated Lawrence County 45–7. Wayne County advanced past Fayetteville 27–21, Eagleville beat Perry County 45–22, and Lincoln County topped McMinn County 24–21.
